Miscellaneous Info: | The Mark 4 armored car was the
last in the line of the ubiquitous Humber British armored car series.
It succeeded the Guy Mark 1/1a Light Wheeled
Tank,
Humber Mark 1,
Mark 2,
Mark
3 and Canadian
Fox Mark 1 Armored Cars. The Humber Mark 4 used the same engine, modified 4-wheel drive Karrier Motors KT 4 Field
Artillery Tractor chassis and hull of the earlier Mark 2 & 3 vehicles,
as well as the larger turret mounted on the Mark 3. However, the
Mark 4 was up-armed with the US produced M6 37mm Cannon instead of the
previously mounted 15mm BESA gun. Due to the
larger weapon being fitted, the crew size again dropped back down to
three despite the larger Mark 3 turret being used. One other variant of this vehicle was built: the Humber Mark 4 Observation Post (OP). The Mark 4 OP variant was equipped with extra radio equipment to be used by Artillery Officers to keep in contact with Field Artillery units. |
