Miscellaneous Info: In the late 1980's/early 1990's, the US Army's 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment- Delta (Delta Force) was seeking a new special operations vehicle for their use.  As the base vehicle, they selected the Austrian Steyr Pinzgauer 718M 6x6 Utility Vehicle. Modifications and customization of the "Gauers" were made and they were quickly put into use.  As Delta's new SOV, they would be used for fire support, long-range reconnaissance and carrying supplies such as ammunition, gasoline and water.  Reportedly, Delta used these SOV's in the First and Second Gulf Wars as well as in Afghanistan. The Pinzgauer was also used by the British 22nd Special Air Service (SAS) and New Zealand SAS Regiments during this same time frame.
