| Miscellaneous Info: | The Autoblindata Vespa (Wasp) was designed by Ottavio Fuscaldo and built
by aircraft company Caproni, using a unique lozenge/diamond wheel design
(one in front, two in middle and one in back).  This unique pattern
allowed for a tight turning radius. The vehicle is sometimes also
referred to as the Fuscaldo Vespa. The initial prototype was submitted for tests to the Italian military in late 1941, but its performance was found to be unacceptable. As a result, Caproni redesigned the vehicle in 1942 and resubmitted it for testing. Notable differences between the two designs include changed windscreen, larger wheels/wheel skirts and modified glacis configuration. Although the redesigned vehicle's performance was improved, the Italians did not accept it for production; the Autoblinda Lince being built instead. |
