Miscellaneous Info: The Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) was developed in the late 2000's by Krauss-Maffei-Wegmann and Rheinmetall Defense as an entry in the Class 1 (light-up to ton payload) & 2 (medium) categories of the German Geschützte Führungs und Funktionsfahrzeuge Program (GFF).  GFF is translated into English as "Protected Command & Role-Specific Vehicle". The GFF program was initiated to select a capable and flexible vehicle able to carry out a multitude of missions and tasks. These missions include, but are not limited to, command, communications, internal security/law enforcement, patrol, reconnaissance, and surveillance.  Initially two versions of the AMPV were developed to fulfill both the Class 1 and 2 requirements, however the smaller Class 1 vehicle was cancelled by the manufacturers. Although the AMPV performed well in the competition, the German military selected the Eagle 4 Protected Command and Utility Vehicle as the new GFF vehicle.  Despite that setback, the AMPV still lives on and was recently (2015) trialed by the Polish military as a possible selection for a new Special Forces vehicle.
