Miscellaneous Info: | At the beginning of the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle program, a number of vendors were contracted to build vehicles without much (if any) testing and evaluation. This decision was made to quickly field MRAP vehicles with the US military. One of those manufacturing groups consisted of the partnership of Oshkosh Truck Company and Protected Vehicles, Inc., which offered the Alpha MRAP. 100 vehicles were quickly ordered by the US Marine Corps (USMC). However, after receiving and then testing them, the USMC found the vehicles to be inadequate for their stringent needs. The entire order was then transferred to other US Government agencies, which did not have the need for combat-rated vehicles. These agencies include Customs & Border Protection, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Immigration & Customs Enforcement. |
