The BA-64 was the
first production vehicle and based upon the GAZ-64 chassis. The later
(and more numerous) version was the BA-64B and based upon the
chassis of the GAZ 67 utility vehicle/jeep. Over 9,000 vehicles were
produced (approximately 3,900 BA-64 and 5,200 BA-64B). Although very
similar, the most recognizable differences between the two versions are
the wider wheel track and the added pistol/vision ports on the sides on
the BA-64B. Please note that a few of the later production BA-64's
and earlier production BA-64B's had overlapping features which makes
them hard to identify. Many different variants were planned and tested, but none went into official production. Some of these variants were the APC, Command, Railroad and up-armed vehicles. However, some field modified "regular" BA-64/64B's were modified in the field with railroad wheels and heavier armament (specifically anti-tank rifles). |
