Miscellaneous Info: | Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide Inc. developed the Clandestine Extended Range Vehicle (CERV) for the U.S. Army's Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC), with funding through the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). The CERV was only envisioned as a demonstrator vehicle to show the potential of a diesel-electric hybrid powered platform to use for reconnaissance, search/rescue, surveillance and targeting missions. To accomplish that goal, the CERV was fitted with Quantum's Q-Force Powertrain, which mated a diesel engine with a 50kw generator and a 100kw drive motor. Besides using less fuel, the vehicle could operate silently for approximately 5-12 miles. The CERV could also be air-lifted by the V-22 Osprey. A total of six (6) vehicles were built, but none saw service. |
