| Miscellaneous Info: | Dove-tailing with their new Medium Combat Truck (MCT) series, the Standard Manufacturing Company created the Excalibur Vulcan Wheeled Carrier to fill the role of a new lower-cost and mobile air-defense system for the U.S. Army. The MCT and Excalibur were built upon the new revolutionary Trailing Arm Drive (TAD) Independent Suspension System. The Excalibur mounted a modified turret and weapon from the towed M167A1 Vulcan Air Defense System on a low-silhouette vehicle using the TAD. One prototype was built and evaluated by the U.S. 9th Infantry Division in 1985. Although its performance was reportedly very good, no vehicles were produced. |
