Miscellaneous Info: | The initial vehicle was named
the High Mobility Transporter* (HMT 400 4x4) and was developed as a private
venture by Supacat. Even to this day, Supacat refers to all
versions of the 4x4 Jackal as the HMT 400. Shortly after the HMT's appearance it was
procured by the British SAS as their new Surveillance and Reconnaissance
Vehicle/Offensive Action Vehicle (SRV/OAV). The SAS vehicle is also
commonly referred to as the "Menacity", although it is unclear if that
name is official or un-official. To add further confusion to this
reference, the Project name was originally "Miniciity".
Again, it is unclear if the Project name was
changed or it was misspelled in British Documents later and erroneously
adopted. With the success of the SRV, the British Army procured additional vehicles for their conventional troops, initially called the M-WMIK (Mobility - Weapons Mounted Installation Kit) vehicle. Later, they would be named the Jackal 1 High Mobility Weapons Platform (HMWP). With the success of that vehicle, the improved Jackal 2 HMWP and larger Coyote 6x6 TSV went into production at the same time. Both these vehicles are based on a similar chassis with a commonality of parts. The Jackal 1's are similar and can be confused for Supacat's HMT Extenda 4x4E. |
