The Light Reconnaissance Vehicle (LRV) 400 was developed to both augment and replace the Supacat HMT 400/Jackal High Mobility Weapons Platform. The first version of the LRV (retroactively referred to as the Mark) 1 was based on the Wildcat Light Armored Utility Vehicle. The Wildcat was itself developed upon the QT Services Wildcat 500 Race Car and “militarized” by Supacat. The subsequent Mark 2 was upgraded and improved, most notably being built upon the strengthened chassis of the Land Rover Discovery 4. The concept of the LRV was to be a capable and flexible vehicle able to be fitted with a multitude of mission modules/protection packages in order to perform many different roles and tasks. The vehicle was even able to be converted into a 6x6 variant, although it is not known if the latest models retain that capability. Although it is not known if the LRV 400 Mark 1 or 2 were ever put into service by anyone, there are reports that a new Mark 3 version is currently being used by UK Special Forces. |
