Miscellaneous Info: As the Land Rover Series 2 Utility Vehicle was another huge success, it was only logical to advance the design into the new Series 3 Landy.  It was offered in three main variants, the 88 inch "Short" wheelbase vehicle (SWB), 88 inch wheelbase "Lightweight" (Air Portable) vehicle and the 109 inch "Long" wheelbase (LWB) vehicle. Further differentiations were General Service (GS) or Fitted for Radio (FFR) vehicles, which also come in hard and soft topped configurations and Right-hand (RHD) or Left-hand (LHD) drive variations.

Many Land Rovers have been modified for combat duties and are armed and/or armored.  Some examples are Armored Land Rovers with Vehicle Protection Kit (VPK) or High Velocity Vehicle Protection Kit (HVVPK) (AKA "Piglet" and "Makrolon") and the and Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) Hotspur and Simba/Shenzi Armored Patrol Vehicles.  The successor to these uparmored Series III Landy's was the Glover-Webb APV.
