| Miscellaneous Info: | After their experience with building the Local Pattern (LP) 1 "Ned Kelly" Armored Car, the Australians decided to produce an improved vehicle, which was aptly named the LP-2. This time they decided to create two (2) cars, each using a different base vehicle for the chassis and automotive components. The first car was built using a Chevrolet truck and named "Boomerang". The other car used a Ford Lorry and was named "Billabong". Although built on different vehicles, the armored hulls were near identical. Not much is known about the exact truck models used, especially the Chevrolet based one. However, what is known is that the Ford vehicle used a shortened 3-ton lorry chassis with an 8-cylinder gasoline engine. Again, although near-from perfect, they did perform fairly well enough to lead to the improved LP-3 Armored Car. |
