Miscellaneous Info: | Also named the G-843, the M422 Mighty Mite was designed and built exclusively for use by the U.S. Marine Corps as an air-portable utility vehicle. It was the first US Military vehicle with an aluminium body and aluminum engine. The later variant, M422A1, was slightly larger as it was lengthened by 6-inches to allow for more space in the rear cargo bed. Although a reliable vehicle, which performed extremely well, it became obsolete quickly due to the vast improvements in lift capability of the new helicopters being produced at the same time; namely the Bell UH-1 "Huey". |
