Miscellaneous Info: |
The Long Range Patrol Vehicle (LRPV) is used exclusively by the
Australian Special Air Service Regiment. It is a variant based
upon the 2-ton Mobility Class (MC)2 6x6 chassis of Australian built
vehicles using the
Land Rover
110/Defender TUM platform. The MC2 4x4 and 6x6 vehicles are both
routinely refered to as "Perentie", a large Australian Lizard, as well
as the Government project name for the replacement of older Series Land
Rovers. Although both the 4x4 & 6x6 vehicles are very similar to
the British Built vehicles, the 6x6 variant is both much longer and
wider. In 2002 the vehicles were upgraded with Survival Enhancement Kit (SEK) anti-mine protection. In 2005 the "Perenties" were completely overhauled by Tenix Defence to extend their service life until they could be replaced by the Nary (just recently), which is based on the SUPACAT HMT 4x4E Extenda Patrol Vehicle. |
