Miscellaneous Info: |
The reason these armored vehicles are
referred to as "Sandwich" trucks is due to their type of armor.
Shortages of proper military-grade metal armor neccesated the use of
alternating layers of lower-grade metal/plywood armor. Sand, cement,
rubber and even glass were also used. The vehicle was constructed on just about any type of procured truck chassis (especially in the early days). However, in the later stages of use, US or British/Commonwealth manufactured vehicles were mostly converted; including US 3/4, 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 ton and British/CMP 15 cwt, 30 cwt and 3 ton trucks. |
