| Miscellaneous Info: |
The T11E1 Multiple Machine Gun Mount was built most likely using an
*American Austin Roadster Pick-Up that was provided by the company to
the U.S. Army for testing. Among it's unique design characteristics,
there was a rotating seat and gun mount fitted so that the lone crew
member could quickly switch between driving and firing the weapons.
Not much is known about the vehicle or its service, but it was at least
tested by the U.S. 1st Armored Car Squadron, including being taken on an
approximately 300-mile trip from Ft. Bliss to Terlingua, Texas.
Supposedly, there was also a subsequent T11E2 built as well, which was
fitted with water-cooled .50 cal guns instead. Most likely it was
probably this same vehicle with swapped out weapons. *Other sources state the vehicle was built using either a Chevrolet or Pontiac vehicle. However, based upon my research it appears the vehicle was built by American Austin. |
