| Miscellaneous Info: | The first version of the very capable Italian armored car design which was succeeded by the almost identical AB 41; which differed only in the main armament fitted and a slightly more powerful engine. The subsequent AB 43 was also very closely related as well, but had a few more modifications. Only a few of the AB 40's were produced (20-25?) before production was quickly switched to the AB 41. A variant was built for use on railroad tracks (AB 40 Ferrovaria) and a turretless prototype command vehicle was tested but never fielded. |
