The Akrep ("Scorpion" in English), was privately developed by Otokar to fulfill a requirement for the Turkish security forces. It was designed to perform in the Counter-Insurgency, Escort/Patrol, Light Strike, Reconnaissance and Security roles. Like its compliment vehicle, the Otokar Armored Patrol Vehicle, it shares from 70-80% of its automotive components with the Land Rover Defender (90/110). By all accounts the Akrep is a very capable vehicle, which is evidenced by the large number of users. Although no longer in production, Otokar is producing the Akrep II Multi-Role Vehicle family as its replacement. |
