Miscellaneous Info: | To improve the design of the later Model 1928 BA-27 Armored Cars, Soviet authorities modified twenty (20) of those vehicles by replacing the rear running gear with that of the Timken Ford 3-axle 6x4 truck chassis. "Timken Ford" refers to the Timken tandem rear axles combined with the Ford GAZ AA suspension and other automotive components. Besides that major change, most everything else was the same as the earlier BA-27's, most notably the turret and armament. However, due to the vehicles' longer length, the crew was increased back to four members also shared with the earlier Model 1927 BA-27's. Another benefit to the longer chassis allowed the cars to be fitted with "overall tracks" on the rear wheels, which further improved their mobility. Although these cars did have improved performance from earlier models, the result was still mediocre. However, valuable lessons were learned and expounded upon with its immediate successor, the BAI Armored Car. |
