The Cobra APC is a flexible and well-proven vehicle design by Turkey's Otokar using AM General's HMMWV upgraded Expanded Capacity Vehicle (ECV) automotive components, most notably the chassis.  The primary APC variant can be built as a basic and inexpensive utilitarian vehicle, yet be improved with many optional features to upgrade its performance capability.  Options include an amphibious kit, gun ports, night-vision equipment, self-recovery winch, and upgraded armor protection.  In addition, specialized mission kits can be added to modify the basic APC to fulfill multiple roles. Using the mission kits, the Cobra can be modified to become an Ambulance, Anti-tank Missile Carrier, Artillery Forward Observation Vehicle, Command and Control Vehicle, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Vehicle, Ground Surveillance Vehicle, Internal Security Vehicle, Mortar (81mm) Carrier, Nuclear/Biological/Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle, and Reconnaissance Vehicle.

The more advanced Cobra 2 Tactical Wheeled Armored Vehicle is now also being produced by Otokar.  However, the Cobra APC is still in widespread use around the world and showing no signs of disappearing anytime soon.
