Miscellaneous Info: At the beginning of World War Two, Italian forces were desperately in need or armored vehicles, specifically for use in the North Africa theater.  As a result, the hulls of retired Fiat-Terni Tripoli Armored Cars were brought out of storage and mated with the more modern SPA 38R Coloniale 2 1/2 ton truck chassis. In addition, other changes were made to the these new "1940 Pattern" cars (or "late") Fiat-Terni's, including the lengthening of the rear body and the cutting down of the turrets and mounting of more powerful weapons. The "1940 Pattern" cars were to be used as mobile anti-aircraft defense in the "Babini" Armoured Group.  Sources vary on the number of vehicles converted, which range from two (2) to "under ten (10)". Unfortunately, these cars didn't last long as they were all either destroyed or captured very soon after they were built in 1940.

*Although most sources combine these later 1940 Pattern production vehicles with the Fiat-Terni Series, we have created a separate index covering these vehicles as they were substantially different.
