Miscellaneous Info: The Fiat-Terni Armored cars were the last Italian armored car produced during World War One. However, it served primarily post-war in the Italian African colony of Libya.  As such, it was named the "Tripoli" by its users and the "Fiat Libia" as well/instead later in its career. Approximately 12-15 cars were produced by the company Odero-Terni-Orlando (OTO).  OTO also provided the armor, but the chassis and automotive components used were from the Fiat 15 ter 1 1/2 ton truck. By all accounts the Tripoli was a reliable and capable armored vehicle, which saw good service through the mid-late 1930's before being (temporarily) retired.

Then, at the beginning of World War Two, as the Italian were in desperately in need or armored vehicles, the hulls were brought out of storage and mated with the more modern SPA 38R Coloniale 2 1/2 ton truck chassis. These "1940 Pattern" Fiat-Terni's didn't last very long as they were all destroyed/captured soon after they were built.  Although most sources combine these later production vehicles with the earlier Fiat-Terni's, we have created a separate index covering the Fiat-Terni Tripoli (1940 Pattern) Armored Cars as they were substantially different.
