Miscellaneous Info:

The ASLAV 25 is the reconnaissance vehicle in the Australian Light Armored Vehicle (ASLAV) series. The ASLAV 25 is equipped with the Type 1 Hull, which allows for the fitting of a two-man turret.

The ASLAV's were procured/produced in 3 "Phases".  Each phase (version) consists of upgrades and changes to improve the performance of the vehicles and older vehicles were sometimes upgraded to the improved "phase" model standards.  Phase 1 ASLAV's were purchased directly from the US Marine Corps and delivered in 1990. Phase 2 vehicles are based on the MOWAG Piranha 2 Chassis and are the original 97 LAVs procured directly from GM of Canada and delivered between 1994-1996.  Phase 3 vehicles are the follow-up purchase of 150 vehicles by Australia directly from GM; and
delivered between 2002-2004.  The Phase 1 ASLAV's are very similar to the 8x8 Piranha 1 and the USMC's LAV-25 vehicles. The Phase 3 vehicles are similar to the Canadian Coyote Recon Vehicle and Bison APC. In addition to the ASLAV-25 Recon vehicles other ASLAV variants are the ASLAV-A (Ambulance), ASLAV-C (Command), ASLAV-F (Fitter/Field Repair), ASLAV-PC (APC), ASLAV-R (Recovery), and ASLAV-S (Surveillance).
