Miscellaneous Info: The LAV-AD is the Air Defense variant in the United States Marine Corps family of Light Armored Vehicles (LAV).  Although based on the same LAV design, it was fielded many years after the initial procurement of vehicles in the early 1980's. During the initial planning phase of the project, both General Electric (GE) and Food Machinery Corporation (FMC) were contacted to build prototype turrets.  Besides differing in design from the GE "Blazer" turret (which was ultimately selected), the FMC turret was armed with an M242 25mm cannon.  Although 125 vehicles were slated to be produced, only a small number (17) of these variants were built before production ceased.

*The original U.S. military requirement required the vehicle to also be armed with a 70mm Hydra Unguided Rocket Pod Launcher. However, this was later dropped due to the ineffectiveness of the weapon system.
