Miscellaneous Info: |
The Peugeot Model 1914 armored car was built in two versions, although
there is no indication that they were officially given any separate
designations. They were both referred to as the "Model 1914".
However, to differentiate the two, we refer to the first version as
"Early" and the second as "Production. The "Early" version was
built using the chassis and automotive components of the Peugeot Type
153 touring car. The vehicle had a strengthened chassis/suspension
as well as second rear wheels added. Also, it was partially armored,
with protection only to the driver's compartment and rear area. The
"Production" version used either the Peugeot Types 146 and 148 cars as
their basis, but were fully armored. As the vehicles appeared in
rapid succession, most vehicles built (and photographed) were of the
"Production" type. Like its
contemporary, the
Renault Model 1915 armored car, two
versions of the Peugeot were built, mostly differentiated by the armament they
carried. The "Automitrailleuse" mounted a 8mm machine gun and the "Autocanon" mounted a 37mm cannon. After World War One, some remaining vehicles in French Service were given or sold to the Kingdoms of Serbia and Yugoslavia, as well as to Poland. The Polish cars were named the WZ. 18. Some of these cars even saw service at the start of World War Two. |
