Miscellaneous Info:	In 2018 the US Army commenced the Initial Maneuver Short-Range Air Defense program (IM-SHORAD) to replace the aging HMMWV based Avenger SHORAD system. The new vehicle would have a much better capability defending the US Army's ground forces from fixed aircraft, helicopters, missiles and drones. The most notable improvement is that the new vehicle would be able to fire on the move.  After a short development and testing period the first (4) prototype Stryker M-SHORAD vehicles were fielded by the Army.  Additional vehicles should be delivered late in that same year. The Stryker M-SHORAD mates the proven Stryker A1 base vehicle (Double V-Hull) with the Ricardo DRS Air Defense Mission Equipment Package (MEP).  The MEP features the Reconfigurable Integrated Weapons Platform turret by Moog Space & Defense Group.  At the time of writing (2022), another similar Stryker-based vehicle using a laser as its main weapon, is being developed to supplement the Stryker M-SHORAD.  This other vehicle is referred to as the Directed Energy Mobile-SHORAD (DE M-SHORAD).  Two finalists, Northrup-Grumman and Raytheon, had systems in the final testing phase, with Raytheon's entry being selected.  The US Army plans to have a prototype platoon ready in Fiscal Year 2022.
