Miscellaneous Info: | After the creation of the T19 Armored Car, it was decided to lighten and simplify the design. The result was the T19E1, of which only one was completed. Improvements included a redesigned hull and turret, as well as changing the engines. Testing showed the design was still too heavy for an efficient reconnaissance vehicle, although the chassis showed promise. At the request of US Tank Destroyer Command, an M3 75mm gun was mounted on the same chassis, in an open turret and designated the T66 75mm Gun Motor Carriage. Along with the T66 GMC, the T19E1 was also tested by the British Desert Warfare Board and found to be superior to the T17E1 Staghound. However, as the war in North Africa was over, it was decided that vehicles of such size and weight were no longer needed. |
