Miscellaneous Info:	The High Mobility Multi-Purpose Vehicle (HMMWV) M997 Maxi-Ambulance was built to evacuate casualties for the U.S. Military. Like the M996 Mini-Ambulance, it is fitted with basic armor protection and a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) contaminant filtration system. However, the M997 is larger, so they accommodate four (4) litter patients or eight (8) ambulatory casualties (or a mixed combination). In addition, it has enough space to allow a medical attendant to assist the casualties in the rear compartment.  The M997 was built in the A0, A1, A2 and an A3 production series. The A3 production series was only named as such for this variant. The M997A3 was built upon the heavy M1152A1 Cargo/Troop/Shelter Carrier chassis.  Other HMMWV based ambulances are the M996 Mini-Ambulance and M1035 Soft-Top Ambulance. In addition, the rear maxi-ambulance body can be used as the basis for a Command/Control/Communications/Intelligence (C3I) vehicle; which doesn't appear to be an official variant.
